“Integrated Management System” works pursued within the framework of the Total Quality Management approach since 2000 by Betonsa which is Akçansa’s ready mixed concrete branch, were concluded and the Integrated Management System was put into effect.

ISO 14001 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM CERTIFICATION

The “Environmental Work Group” set up within the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System works, initially studied the environmental factors associated with every stage of the ready mixed concrete processes, the frequency of occurrence of these factors and the potential damages one-by-one, and designated the risks involved. Physical measures stipulated by laws and regulations associated with these factors carrying “major” environmental impacts were determined for each facility and construction works were set off. All wastes associated with the ready mixed concrete process were designated and a “waste – scrap area” for depositing these wastes under appropriate conditions within the facilities was constructed. Every waste disposal method was analyzed and local solutions were determined. The Environmental Management Schedule that incorporated all works currently in effect or planned for the future was prepared and the measures necessary for preventing environmental pollution and reducing wastes were settled on, according to the pre-determined calendar. Operational control, measuring and monitoring procedures relating to the environmental factors were supported with instructions in line with the Management Policy, and the Environmental Management System documentation was prepared so as to conform to the existing documentation system. In December 2002, Environmental Management System documentation was quickly fed into the new QDMS software and the performance of the new established system was checked by internal audits. As a consequence of all these efforts, Betonsa went through ISO 14001 Certification Audit in 2003 with success and started implementing the Integrated Management System.
